The National Building Code of Canada Part 3 is designed to engage the participant in the learning process by organizing the course into modules, with self-study and sample project applications with interactive Question and Answers, to check learner knowledge acquisition. Amal Tamim is a senior fire protection and life safety specialist consultant based in Montreal, Canada. She has over 30 years global experience in the field of fire engineering, life safety and code consulting. She is a professional member of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers and is a member of Codes Canada CBHCC Standing Committee-Use and Egress. As a multilingual fire protection and safety specialist, she conducts fire hazard and risk analysis, building code, fire code and accessibility compliance reviews, develops code compliance strategies and alternate solutions, interfaces with local authorities in reviews of alternative solutions and preparation of Fire Safety Plans, conducts building inspections and audits, assists manufacturers with development of construction product entry in new markets, supports construction industry suppliers with product testing, evaluations to obtain approvals and certifications, and assists with peer reviews and engineering judgement preparation and reviews.
Ms. Tamim’s experience encompasses global construction products technical standards and approvals, setting up and developing new market presence for testing, certification and fire protection consulting services in the Gulf Region where she collaborated closely with local fire authorities on developing fire safety product reviews and approvals programs, supporting manufacturers, agencies, designers and developers with fire and life safety and compliance review services in all construction sectors including commercial, residential, education, industrial, mixed-use, logistics, transportation and nuclear, as well as conducting fire and life assessment audits and reviews of existing facilities and assisting building and facility owners in addressing fire code violations. Ms. Tamim is a frequent speaker and participates in technical conferences ad professional conferences. - Apply the minimum standards of the NBC to a building governed by Division B Part 3..
- Describe the requirements for achieving design compliance using alternative solutions, as set out in NBCC Division A Subsection 1.2.1 and in Division B Subsection 1.1.2.
- Identify Code objectives and their application
- Identify the proper application of an alternative solution in building design in Canada.
