The RAIC is pleased to share that the International Union of Architects (UIA) has formally adopted the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP). This represents a major accomplishment for the UIA Indigenous Peoples Work Program (IPWP), for which the RAIC serves as Secretariat.
As Secretariat, the RAIC supports the IPWP’s coordination, governance, and global outreach efforts. The program’s co-chairs advanced a detailed and evidence-informed submission to UIA leadership highlighting the importance of aligning architectural practice with internationally recognized human rights standards, strengthening sustainable design, and ensuring Indigenous Peoples’ knowledge and self-determination guide work across the built environment.
The RAIC congratulates the IPWP on this historic achievement and reaffirms our commitment to supporting Indigenous-led priorities within global architectural practice.
