BOLD IDEAS THAT INSPIRE- PechaKucha Community Showcase

Call for Proposals

The RAIC Climate Action Plan Steering Committee welcomes submissions for short PechaKucha style presentations that showcase inspiring or transformational ideas related to climate action engagement and enablement. Shortlisted presentations will be featured during the Congress on Architecture taking place on October 3, 2022.

  • Submit a 500 word abstract describing the inspiring or transformational idea for the PechaKucha presentation. (If selected, you will be asked to record your presentation for live broadcast during the Congress and other related activities)
  • Include your full contact details
  • Include the full list of authors

Deadline for submission: August 26, 2022

Abstracts for the PechaKucha presentations will be part of the published Congress proceedings. Presentations may run up to 6 minutes with a 20 image maximum.

Successful submissions will need to record their presentation in advance, deadline September 16, 2022. Participants are welcome to join in person at St. Andrews, N.B. and will receive a 20% discount on all-access pass.

We are excited to welcome you back to our first in-person event in three years!  

The RAIC Congress on Architecture Week 2022 is a series of activities and events that bring together professionals for celebrations and conversations on architecture. It is a week that honours exceptional achievements and dedication to architecture while acting as a forum for important discussions focused on climate action within the context of social justice, equality, and diversity in the profession.  

Join the RAIC in person for celebrations and important discussions on architecture while exploring the historic coastal town of Saint Andrews, New Brunswick.

The RAIC acknowledges that the Congress on Architecture Week 2022 gathers on the unceded traditional territory of the Passamaquoddy people. We are deeply grateful for their stewardship of the land and resources.

Day 1 - October 2, 2022 

Ministers Island and the Sir William Van Horne Estate Architectural Tour* 
October 2, 2022
9:15 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. AT 

Led by John Leroux, MRAIC, delegates will leave the hotel by motorcoach and travel to Ministers Island, a 500-acre island located near St. Andrews-by-the-Sea, New Brunswick where Sir William Van Horne lived with his family during the summer months. This National and Provincial Historic Site is accessible only at low tide by driving or walking on the seafloor. On this panoramic and scenic tour, delegates will be provided with a guided tour of “Covenhoven”- the large 50 room sandstone mansion, “Bath House” - a circular bathhouse and tidal saltwater swimming pool, and one of the most unique barns and creameries in Canada along with many other historic and unique buildings.   

Town of Saint Andrews Walking Tour *
October 2, 2022 
2:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. AT  

Take part in the scenic and historic sights of the very walkable National Historic District of Saint Andrews. Led by John Leroux, MRAIC, the tour will include visiting a number of Loyalist homes, some Edward and William Maxwell-designed late 19th and early 20th century buildings, and several National Historic Sites, such as Greenock Presbyterian Church (1824).  

RAIC Convocation Ceremony and Reception
October 2, 2022
8:00 pm. – 10:30 p.m. AT   

The RAIC College will formally recognize RAIC members and distinguished laypersons who have made outstanding contributions to the profession. The ceremony also recognizes graduates of the RAIC Syllabus Program.    

Day 2 - October 3, 2022 

RAIC 2022 Congress on Architecture – RAIC Climate Action and Architecture
October 3, 2022 – World Architecture Day
8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. AT    

The RAIC Congress on Architecture will take place on October 3 - World Architecture Day. The RAIC Congress on Architecture brings professionals together to ignite action, strengthen connections, and share ideas on a single issue of importance to the profession. The 2022 RAIC Congress on Architecture will focus Climate Action and Architecture and the development of the RAIC Climate Action Engagement and Enablement Plan.

Event includes breakfast and lunch.

RAIC Celebration of Excellence Reception and Dinner
October 3, 2022
6:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. AT   

The RAIC Celebration of Excellence honours individuals and teams whose dedication to architecture has led to exceptional achievements in design excellence, sustainability, innovation, and more.   Join us for a reception followed by a gala dinner including a four-course meal all the while recognizing the achievements of individual and group members of the architectural community.

RAIC and CPCI Special Continuing Education Event: Modular & Prefab the Future of Design & Construction

The Royal Architectural Institute of Canada and Canadian Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute are pleased to present a special continuing education event during the RAIC Congress on Architecture.

This event includes five presentations for a total of four continuing education hours.

Join us for this conversation, Perspectives from Atlantic Canada: Climate Action and Inclusivity in the Built Environment. This event is a live, virtual broadcast that will be presented at in-person events hosted at the Algonquin Resort, Halifax, Charlottetown, Saint John and St. John’s. Event participants will gather at one of the in-person event locations to watch the live broadcast immediately followed by a reception with drinks and small bites. More information coming soon.  

Algonquin Resort Ghost Tour
October 4, 2022

Join venue staff on this tour of the haunted areas of the hotel that share history and ghost stories. Tours are 30-minutes in length.

*This tour is not included in the all-access pass and requires separate registration.
