High Performance Wall Enclosure Systems for Commercial Buildings On the Path Towards Net Zero Ready Performance by 2030

Length: 1 hour

What's included: webinar, quiz, certificate of completion

This is a recording of a live event.

An updated version of this webinar using the National Energy Code for Buildings 2020 can be found here: High Performance Wall Enclosure Systems for Commercial Buildings on the Path Towards Net Zero Ready Performance by 2030 - November 2022 | Royal Architectural Institute of Canada (raic.org)

In this webinar, we will look at the impact of cladding attachment types and how to reduce heat flow in exterior metal clad wall assemblies and insulation options. The discussed cladding includes insulating assemblies completely from the exterior side of the exterior sheathing as well as split insulated wall assemblies–where we insulate on both sides of the exterior wall sheathing. Finally, we will look at the available tools and design guides to help architects design high-performance durable wall enclosures and evaluate the overall thermal resistance performance.

Learning Objectives:

At the conclusion of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Determine the difference in thermal resistance requirements between the National Energy Code for Buildings in 2015 and in 2017.
  • Evaluate the different insulation options in order to meet new effective thermal resistance requirements.
  • Identify the benefits of SPLIT INSULATED wall assemblies.
  • Summarize the metal cladding attachment options that help reduce thermal bridging in wall enclosure systems.
