This webinar showcases the Rick Hansen Foundation Accessibility CertificationTM Gold facility designed for Wavefront Centre in Accessible Communications. As the leading provider of services that break down barriers to communication for people with deafblind, deaf, hard of hearing, and hearing, showcasing the best in universal design was important for their clients, employees and community. To achieve this high standard, they brought experts from around the globe together to ensure this facility was a space that welcomed everyone.   

Subject Matter Experts:

Christopher T. Sutton, MBA, Chief Executive Officer, Wavefront Centre for Communication Accessibility 

Christopher T. Sutton, MBA, was appointed to the position of Chief Executive Officer at the Wavefront Centre for Communication Accessibility on April 1, 2020. Christopher has over 20 years of cross-functional and progressive management and leadership experience, working with some of the largest organizations serving people with disabilities in the United States and Canada. Christopher’s career has spanned across the not-for-profit, public, and start-up sectors where he has worked in various leadership capacities in business development, fundraising, government and stakeholder relations, marketing and communications, and sales. 

 

Christopher holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Gallaudet University, and a Master of Business Administration from the Ivey Business School at the University of Western Ontario, in addition to a number of professional certifications. 

 

Christopher is a sought-after expert in issues related to accessibility, diversity and inclusion, and sits on several committees nationally and provincially. As a member and founder of various consumer/industry working groups, Christopher has been successful in enhancing accessibility and inclusion for a broad range of audiences. In 2019, Christopher appeared before three parliamentary committees to advocate for the passage of Bill C-81: An Accessible Canada Act. 

 

Christopher was born with profound hearing loss and grew up using hearing aids. In 2008, to expand his communication options, he underwent surgery to obtain a cochlear implant. In his free time, Christopher volunteers with charities, mentors young adults, and assists smaller organizations with developing social enterprises. Christopher enjoys travelling, visiting beach destinations, biking, cooking, and reading. 

 

Christopher was born in Newfoundland & Labrador and has lived in Washington, DC, and Ottawa, ON, before moving to Vancouver, BC in March 2020. 

 

Jenny BlomeDirector of Accessibility Advisory Services, Rick Hansen Foundation   


Jenny has over a decade of experience in project management and user interface design with innovative companies such as Apple. Working as the director of the built environment for the Rick Hansen Foundation, she created the RHF Accessibility Certification Rating Survey. Jenny now works with large private and government organizations to develop corporate accessibility standards, to assess and rate the current accessibility of facilities, and to follow best practice accessibility standards for all new construction projects. Past projects include working with organizations such as Sunnyhill Children’s Health Centre, National Capital Commission, Canadian Museum of Science and Technology, CN Tower, Concert Properties, Colliers International, University of Toronto, Infrastructure Ontario, Vancouver International Airport, BC Parks, Canadian Border Security Agency, Canada Post. and Government of Canada Public Works. Her qualifications include a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, University of Colorado, and Certification in Universal Design, University of Buffalo.
