Post-Occupancy Evaluations as Nuts and Bolts for Inclusion

This webinar is part of the RAIC 2022 Virtual Conference on Architecture, now available to stream!

Topics: Health, Safety, and Accessibility, Diversity, Equity + Social Justice, Practice and Business of Architecture

Length: 1 hour | What's Included: Video, Quiz, and Certificate of Completion

Post-occupancy evaluations have been part of the building industry for more than a half century. Contrary to their longevity, design and building professionals do not have a clear or consistent definition of them. This session will explore research into the various ways post-occupancy evaluations are used in the practice of architecture ranging from ensuring safety, delivering functionality, providing comfort, and designing spiritual benefits. In addition to defining the various types of post-occupancy evaluations that have been researched and analyzed, Lara will delve into how to determine which tools to use and who will be involved in executing them well. She will demonstrate how post-occupancy evaluations are directly related to pre-design foundations of the project.

Learning Objectives:

By the completion of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Determine how post-occupancy evaluations can inform how well a project resolved the design need.
  • Select appropriate tools to conduct a relevant post-occupancy evaluation.
  • Participate with identified groups to conduct a meaningful post-occupancy evaluation.
  • Integrate post-occupancy evaluation as the meaningful evaluation stage in the design process for continual learning.
