In a context where urban development and technological innovation are continually redefining our cities, preserving Quebec's modern architectural heritage is a crucial issue for maintaining cultural and historical identity. This conference offers an in-depth exploration of the challenges and opportunities associated with the conservation of modern buildings which, although often built in the second half of the 20th century, have become emblematic elements of our architectural landscape and are today at risk of being lost.

During this meeting, the relationship between Quebec's social and historical context and the modern architecture of the 60s and 70s will be set out as a narrative framework for the collective challenge that awaits us in the years to come. This conference is intended as a forum for reflection and exchange for professionals in the sector, architecture enthusiasts and all those interested in protecting our modern architectural heritage. The aim of the conference is to raise awareness of the achievements of our peers, those who have forged our current practice through their extraordinary legacies.

Eric Pelletier

His sensitive, holistic approach has led to the completion of many high-quality projects, many of which have won national and international awards. During his 30-year career as a senior designer and project manager, Eric Pelletier has carried out a wide variety of mandates, all of which have in common a sensitive approach focused on the experience of the user and the place. His ability to adapt to change and his renowned creativity make him an attentive, inclusive and inspired designer. A natural leader, he stands out for his ability to identify issues and effectively communicate information and objectives. Passionate about architecture, he is also involved with Laval University's School of Architecture, where he gives workshops and end-of-study coaching. Over the years, Eric has developed solid expertise in the design and preservation of cultural and institutional buildings. Responsible for several distinctive mandates, he advocates architecture that is measured, meticulous, supportive and meaningful. The Bibliothèque du Boisé and the Grand Théâtre de Québec, winners of an OAQ Grand Prix d'excellence, as well as the prestigious Four Seasons Hotel, which sits proudly in the heart of Montreal, are excellent examples of this.

Sarah Perron Desrochers

Sarah Perron Desrochers holds a master's degree in architecture from Université Laval and a DESS in modern heritage from UQAM in 2024. She has over 10 years' experience in architecture, and has been responsible for the conceptual and technical development of numerous large-scale institutional and cultural projects. She stands out for her expertise in the renovation and transformation of modern heritage buildings, and for her participation in the design of several library redevelopment projects in educational institutions.
