RAIC New Member Spotlight: Timothy Smith, MRAIC

Tim is an Intern Architect with the marc boutin architectural collaborative inc. (MBAC) in Calgary where he is currently working as part of a team on the Ortona Armoury Rehabilitation in Edmonton.

Designed in collaboration with Graham Baba Architects, (Seattle, WA), the rehabilitated space will serve as a community arts hub for both local artists and the surrounding neighbourhood of Rossdale. With a rich history dating back to 1914, the Armoury was designated as a Municipal Historic Resource in 2004, and has been home to a number of user groups over the years including the Hudson’s Bay Company, the Royal Canadian Navy, the National Film Board of Canada, and a variety of independent artists collectively organized as the Ortona Armoury Tenants’ Association (OATA). Tim is excited to be working with a great team of designers, and looks forward to the project’s development.

Having previously worked as a violin teacher and a musician, and as a former visual arts student at the University of British Columbia Okanagan and the University of Calgary, Tim is passionate about community enrichment through the arts, and the role that architecture plays in this process.  Tim received his Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from the University of Alberta, and his Master of Architecture from the John H. Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape, and Design at the University of Toronto.
