Contribute to World Architecture Day

From the RAIC President

The International Union of Architects (UIA), representing 1.3 million architects, has announced the theme of World Architecture Day: Architecture, Building, Climate.

As the world’s national governments approach COP 21, the international climate treaty negotiations taking place in Paris, France later this year, the UIA is joining with its member organizations to highlight the essential role of architecture, design and town planning in reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

October 5, 2015 symbolizes a day to promote actions and solutions that apply the enormous power of architecture and urban design in coping with global climate change, one of the greatest challenges of our time. Leading a series of events and sessions devoted to responsible design, planning and building, the UIA will underscore the contributions of architects worldwide during the COP 21 meetings (Paris - 30 November-11 December 2015). A delegation, led by the UIA President, architect Esa Mohamed of Malaysia, will represent the profession.

RAIC World Architecture Day Awareness Campaign

To commemorate World Architecture Day on Monday, October 5, the RAIC is calling for submissions to highlight the value and essential role of architecture, design, and planning in reducing associated greenhouse gas emissions in Canada.

We are inviting members, industry friends and colleagues to share their ideas, sketches, designs, stories and essays that focus on sustainable architecture and strategies for reduction of carbon footprint /greenhouse gas emissions.

We welcome everyone to support this awareness campaign. Members who participate will be entered into a draw to win 50 percent off 2016 RAIC membership dues. Send your entries to communications@raic.org. All entries will be posted on the RAIC website and shared on social media. We encourage members also to share their ideas via their own social media channels. Remember to use the hashtag #raic.

In addition, the UIA is creating a dedicated website with the theme of Architecture, Building, Climate: Responsible Architecture and Urban Design.

RAIC members may send their entries to the UIA to be posted on the website. Send the entry by email at admin@uia-architectes.org.
