Dorte Mandrup
Dorte Mandrup is the founder and owner of Dorte Mandrup Architects A/S, an international practice based in Copenhagen. She is an adjunct professor at the Danish Royal Academy of Arts , and has been a jury member of numerous international competitions. Her work is widely published and exhibited in Europe and Asia. Cultural buildings and community facilities, many of which are for children and youth, form a strong component of her built work, which ranges across the full spectrum of practice.
She is a board member at Louisiana Museum of Modern Art and appointed member of Denmark’s Historic Buildings Council. Over her 15 years of practice, she has been awarded more than 20 awards for her work. Among them the Bauwelt Prize, the AR Award for Emerging Architecture, as well as the C.F. Hansen medal, Denmark’s highest obtainable distinction for an architect.
Maxime Frappier, MIRAC
Maxime-Alexis Frappier is associate at acdf*, a practice based in Montreal, with an international scope. The office develops its designs from a close understanding of the users’ needs, to create functional and efficient spaces, and bring a strong and legitimate charge to the poetic expression of the building. Their production in the cultural, institutional and industrial fields has been of special note in the profession.
He is the recipient of a Young Architect Award from the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada and a Governor General Medal in Architecture, among others. He contributes to programming at the CBC and sits on the Boards of the Maison de l’Architecture du Québec and the Fonds d’assurance of the Ordre des architects du Québec.
David Miller, MRAIC
David Miller is a partner at MacLennan Jaunkalns Miller Architects, and one of greater Toronto's most established architects in the design of public realm buildings. Community building in the broadest sense is at the core of their practice, along with a strong commitment to environmental responsibility. Rooted in the recreational sector, their practice plans and develops well-balanced, and lived-in neighbourhoods.
His firm has received over 50 awards, including a Governor General Medal, Nova Scotia Lieutenant Governor's General Awards, Design Exchange National Awards, Ontario Association of Architects Architectural Excellence Awards, Canadian Architect Awards of Excellence, and a Toronto Architecture & Urban Design Award, among others.
James KM Cheng, FRAIC
James Cheng heads James Cheng Architects, whose iconic residential towers have become the international face of Vancouver. His practice covers the full range of scales, from city planning to the design of sustainable communities, to single family houses and small interiors, with a constant commitment to quality of design and execution. The firm is active in Canada, US and China.
He has served on Advisory Design Committee of the National Capital Commission in Ottawa and on the City of Vancouver’s Planning Commission and Urban Design Panel. He has received over 50 design awards from the American Institute of Architects, Architectural Record Magazine, Canadian Architect, Governor General’s Medal, and has been appointed a Member of the Order of Canada.
Roberta Brandes Gratz
Roberta Brandes Gratz is a journalist and urban critic, author and international lecturer on urban development issues. She sits on the Sustainability Advisory Board for PlaNYC, is one of the Founding members of the Center for the Living City, and is Trustee and former head of Public Policy of the New York State Preservation League. Her articles have appeared in the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, The Nation, Tikkun, and others. She is recipient of writing awards from the American Institute of Architects, American Planning Association, Municipal Art Society, the New York Press Club, the City Club of New York and others. Her books include Cities Back from the Edge: New Life for Downtown, and The Battle For Gotham: New York in the Shadow of Robert Moses and Jane Jacobs.
