Position Summary
The Senior Director, New Patient and Surgical Tower will lead the delivery of a state-of-the-art, 15-storey, 370,000-square-foot surgical and patient tower at Toronto Western Hospital, enhancing its status as Ontario’s top Neurosciences Centre. Reporting to the Chief Planning Officer, they will oversee project management, contract administration, and ensure adherence to scope, budget, and schedule. This role involves collaboration with clinical leadership, research, education, and other key stakeholders to support UHN’s programs and services. The Senior Director works closely with FM-PRO leadership to align projects with UHN’s strategic priorities while managing available capital resources. They are accountable for the construction program’s successful outcomes, maintaining direct oversight of processes, procedures, and project delivery.

Duties
- Lead the project management and delivery of the 15-storey, 370,000-square-foot New Patient and Surgical Tower at Toronto Western Hospital.
- Oversee contract administration, including Furniture and Equipment Contracts, ensuring adherence to scope, budget, and schedule.
- Collaborate with clinical leadership, research, education, and other key stakeholders to support UHN’s programs and services.
- Ensure successful project outcomes by managing available capital resources and spatial constraints in alignment with UHN’s strategic priorities.
- Work closely with other stakeholders to coordinate space and capital planning efforts.
- Maintain direct oversight of construction program processes and procedures, ensuring accountability for project delivery and operational readiness.
Qualifications
- Completion of a bachelor’s degree in architecture or engineering or recognized equivalent required.
- A minimum of 10 years progressive practical experience in the field of planning, design, construction and project management of a variety of capital construction and equipment installation projects.
- 5 or more years of related experience of managing medium to large multifunctional project management teams in a complex, multi-stakeholder environment, such as a hospital or clinic with 24/7/365 operational environments.
- Membership in Professional Engineers of Ontario or Ontario Association Architects preferred.
- Experience in the healthcare sector or the public sector, with knowledge of applicable legislative, UHN and/or departmental policies is highly desirable.
- Excellent change management, leadership and motivational skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication including report writing and presentation skills.
- Excellent organization and time management skills.
- Exercise initiative and good judgment with ability to multi-task.
- Ability to negotiate in a matrix environment; adaptability and flexibility.
- Ability to implement changes and work effectively in a high-pressure environment.
- Ability to work with diverse personalities in a professional and courteous manner and produce high quality work while meeting deadlines in accordance with UHN standards.
