Intern Architect | Royal Architectural Institute of Canada

Intern Architect

Organization:
Station One Architects Ltd.
Job Description:

The Opportunity:

We’re growing our architectural team at SOA and looking for an Intern Architect who’s ready to get into the thick of real projects - not just the design, but the whole process. This is a hands-on role where you’ll learn by doing, be trusted with real responsibility, and get the support you need along the way.

Our work spans institutional, education, and community housing projects across BC. These projects are complex - often publicly funded, with lots of moving parts, tight timelines, and unique challenges. We’re looking for someone who wants to be in it, from early design right through to construction, and who finds meaning in figuring things out, not just drawing them up.

What You’ll Be Doing:

You won’t be stuck in the corner updating one detail over and over. You’ll be in the mix - learning, producing, asking questions, and building your confidence in the process.
• Work under a registered architect as you progress toward licensure through the AIBC IAP program
• Support projects from early stages through to working drawings and construction
• Prepare drawing sets, models, and visuals for meetings, permits, and city submissions
• Get into code checks, bylaws, and all the backend details that bring designs to life
• Use Revit daily - updating models, cleaning up drawings, redlining, and building out technical packages
• Pitch in on team reviews, share ideas, ask questions, and speak up when something’s off
• Join site visits, client meetings, and project huddles - this is how you’ll grow
• Get exposure to delivery models like Design-Bid-Build, Design-Build and IPD

Who We’re Looking For:

We know you’re still learning - but we want someone who’s curious, thoughtful, and ready to contribute. Here’s what we need:
• You’ve got a Master’s degree in Architecture from a Canadian university
• You’re enrolled in (or eligible for) the AIBC Internship in Architecture Program (IAP)
• You’ve worked at least 2 years in a Canadian architectural firm
• You’ve used Revit on real projects and can jump in with support from the team
• You’ve done enough to know what you don’t know - and you’re excited to keep learning
• You’re organized, detail-oriented, and willing to ask for help when you need it
• You’re reliable, thoughtful, and someone your teammates can count on

You’ll Fit In Here If You:
• Keep your word, own your work, and don’t leave others guessing
• Like being part of a team where we back each other up
• Adapt when things change and stay grounded when things get busy
• Bring focus, flexibility, or a good sense of humour (ideally all three) to your day

Compensation & Working Conditions:
• Starting at $65,000/year (negotiable), full-time, in-person at our Chilliwack studio
• Friday afternoons off all summer, plus paid vacation and extended health (fully covered by SOA)
• AIBC dues and development supports included - because we want to see you grow here
• Join a fantastic group of people who show up, work hard, and have fun together
