Job Description: 

The Director General is accountable to provide the national strategic leadership and direction for the planning, management and delivery of this highly complex, interdependent, multi-billion dollar, multi-year, high profile Program of Work of significant complexity, risk, and public interesting accordance with the requirements of the Government of Canada (GC).

Providing this leadership requires the Director General to maintain principal accountability for project delivery through all stages,act as the primary point of contact between with clients, and lead dedicated project teams of internal and external specialists, client representatives and other resources, as appropriate, to manage the planning and delivery of the individual projects.

Specifically the Director General, in providing national leadership, is accountable for, but is not limited to, the following activities:

  • Determining the appropriate solution for each project, such as renovation of existing facilities and/or the provision of new facilities or combinations of existing and new facilities;
  • Overseeing design and construction while maintaining at all times the projects within set and approved parameters of On Time, On Budget, On Scope (OTOBOS) and quality objectives;
  • Ensuring that all required approvals are obtained.
  • Overseeing the development of project plans, project and contract risk management measures,  consultant and contractor selection, contract award and contract management; providing monitoring and reporting on progress to stakeholders;
  • Providing senior level expertise to address conflicts and issues; and ensuring acceptance of the built works.  
  • Establishing processes for monitoring progress at the program and project level and reporting to stakeholders;
  • Addressing or providing recommendations to address issues and to facilitate decision-making;
  • Managing project teams of internal and external specialists;
  • Ensuring audit readiness; and
  • Coordinating communications activities.
