ASSISTANT PROFESSOR IN ARCHITECTURE TECHNOLOGY

The Faculty of Architecture invites applicants for a full-time tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the Department of Architecture, commencing on 1 July 2025.
We seek a colleague to teach design and building technology in our Canadian Architectural Certification Board accredited professional program. They will demonstrate evidence in a teaching portfolio of both professional design studios and building technology coursework and they will demonstrate peer-reviewed evidence of a focused, innovative, and active agenda in professional practice and research. The successful candidate will demonstrate effective written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities are divided into 40% teaching, 40% research and 20% service. Teaching responsibilities include one of three levels of professional design studio [teaching that links building knowledge to design practice];collaborating in delivery of our five-course technology sequence; advising students in their comprehensive Design Thesis; and instructing topical graduate elective coursework. Research and Creative Activity can include research (qualitative and/or quantitative, various forms), professional practice (application and theory-building, public dissemination), applied scholarship (typically community-involved non-remunerative), creative work (visual arts, new media, product design…). Service includes serving on Department, Faculty, and University committees, participating as a guest critic in studios and guest lecturer in courses, and service to local and broader community.
THE DEPARTMENT OF ARCHITECTURE

The Department of Architecture embraces and celebrates a wide range of disciplines, methodologies and design practices including professional and industrial traditions, emerging digital and computational technologies, as well as Land-based and Indigenous knowledge systems, among others.The Department advocates “thinking through making” and values diverse approaches to material research, representation and integrated technologies.
THE FACULTY OF ARCHITECTURE AND THE COMMUNITY
The Faculty of Architecture is comprised of an undergraduate Environmental Design Program, four accredited professional programmes in Architecture, City Planning, Interior Design, Landscape Architecture, and a Ph.D. program in Planning and Design. The University of Manitoba is a doctoral / research institution with 30,000 students and 9,000 faculty and staff. Winnipeg is a city of 800,000 people and capital of a vibrant Prairie region built on Treaty One land at the confluence of the Assiniboine and Red Rivers with a rich architectural history and a remarkable range of arts and cultural institutions.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Professional Master’s degree in Architecture
- Preference will be given to candidates with one of the following:
- Professional registration with evidence of authorship and innovation in practice
- PhD in Architecture or an allied discipline
- Post-professional degree in Architecture or an allied discipline
