John MacDonald Architect continues to grow, and we invite you to help shape our Journey Our forward-thinking design studio of twelve or so is presently working on a wide range of projects including heritage properties, mixed use and multi-res developments, emergency services and other public use facilities, public spaces, interior design, adaptive re-use, and custom residential projects. If you can bring a unique skillset(s) to our dynamic team and would like to assist us with our expanding project load, we'd like to hear from you. The successful applicant will be involved with all phases of project development, including client / subconsultant support and will work in person at our open, light-filled downtown Kitchener space. Experience and Skills: - a keen interest in learning and development of skills for how buildings are constructed and function; - motivation to be organized, efficient, and increasingly competent; - a good spatial sense, and willingness to see inspiring architecture as the performance of building systems in support of user comfort, experience and well-being; - excellent understanding of BIM and modelling software principles (2D and 3D) working within a Mac-based environment (proficiency with Vectorworks is considered an asset); - ability to gracefully contribute to the enrichment of our office and team; - A good all-rounder and team player; - Organized, efficient, competent and motivated; - Proficiency working within a Mac-based environment; - Excellent understanding of CAD software principles (2D and 3D); - Proficiency with Vectorworks and similar model-based CAD programs (such as Revit) is considered an asset; and - Experience in the architecture and design industry and understanding of construction detailing is considered an asset Preference is for a graduate in architectural technology with previous work experience in the architecture and building industry. Responsibilities: Participating in our team through all stages of a project from initial concept to completion, working under the direction of project leaders on larger projects as well as taking project lead responsibility for project phases, including: - Preparing existing conditions documentation; - Contribution to design sessions and evaluation of design options; - Producing design documentation including renderings, diagrams, and material for design reports and presentations, under the direction of project leaders; - Preparation and Co-ordination of permit and contract documentation under the direction of the Principal and - Project Leaders; and - Assisting with contract administration and reviews of construction. Renumeration: Remuneration is dependent upon qualifications and experience, your role within the firm, and our wage grid. Our firm pays all overtime hours, and you are welcome to ask for references from our staff and former staff regarding our culture and supportive environment. Depending upon experience, wages may range from $50-65,000 per annum based on normal work week, with potential increase for exceptional candidates.
