Senior Vice President, Development

Organization:
Waterfront Toronto
Job Description:

Location: Toronto, Ontario

Waterfront Toronto was established in 2001 with a bold and ambitious mission: to tackle the complex challenges along Toronto’s waterfront, requiring the alignment and collaboration of all three levels of government. With strong backing from federal, provincial, and municipal governments, Waterfront Toronto has dismantled the barriers to revitalization, positioning the city to compete with and join the ranks of the world’s most celebrated waterfronts.

By embracing the voices of the community, Waterfront Toronto has crafted a compelling and forward-looking vision for a vibrant and sustainable waterfront. Leveraging partnerships with a diverse range of stakeholders—from developers to conservationists and community leaders—Waterfront Toronto is not only driving next-generation economic growth but also enhancing the ecological well-being of the waterfront, ensuring it remains a valued and sustainable asset for future generations. It is in this context of transformational growth that Waterfront Toronto is seeking a Senior Vice President (SVP), Development.

Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, the Senior Vice President, Development will be responsible for leading and executing Waterfront Toronto’s ambitious development agenda. As a key member of the senior leadership team, the SVP will provide strategic oversight and direction for the Corporation’s real estate assets, ensuring alignment with Waterfront Toronto’s long-term goals. This role encompasses a broad scope: from driving new community developments—including affordable housing and commercial spaces—to managing asset optimization and securing critical municipal approvals. In this capacity, the SVP will serve as Waterfront Toronto’s primary development expert, fostering strong relationships with stakeholders across government, non-profit, and private sectors while leading and mentoring development teams to foster a culture of excellence and innovation.

The ideal candidate brings a proven track record in delivering large-scale urban mixed-use developments, with particular expertise in projects that integrate affordable housing, retail, commercial, and recreational components. Strong leadership and relationship-building skills will be essential, enabling the SVP to align stakeholders behind Waterfront Toronto’s vision and navigate the complexities of multi-stakeholder environments. The ability to resolve conflicts, manage issues proactively, and mitigate unforeseen delays will be critical to success. As an experienced and strategic negotiator, the SVP will also be attuned to the latest trends in sustainable urban development and smart city initiatives, positioning Waterfront Toronto as a global leader in innovative waterfront revitalization.
