Depuis la création de son bureau d’architectes, il y a vingt-sept ans, Peter Cardew a réalisé bien des projets qui lui ont valu une reconnaissance internationale pour avoir été primés ou publiés dans des magazines spécialisés. Peter Cardew tient à participer personnellement à chaque projet. C’est pourquoi il contrôle la charge de travail du bureau et qu’il a préféré que celui-ci ne prenne pas trop d’expansion.

Pour la première fois en plus de 30 ans, la Médaille d’or de l’IRAC est décernée à une personne qui n’est pas architecte, en reconnaissance des réalisations extraordinaires de l’Aga Khan qui utilise l’architecture comme instrument de développement communautaire pacifique et durable partout dans le monde.

This project kick-starts the development of a large urban wasteland area where rehabilitation is slow to get going. The project is intended to generate new formal and spatial hybrid systems to stimulate new social dynamics of exchange and sharing and create new urban forms.

The Waterloo Public Square has transformed a former parking lot in Uptown Waterloo into a focal point for the city.    The planning process successfully engaged the public and provided Council with clear direction on
land use. 

The design in response to a significant grade change, includes a curved accessible walk, terraced landings, amphitheatre style seating and a large open performance and skating plaza at street level.

The challenge was to make an uninviting 1970s complex worthy of its new role as an institutional headquarters building.

The design includes an entry doubling as an all-seasons exhibition and event space.  A grand canopy is extended beyond the buildings, serving as a wayfinding device.  After dark, the lit structure gives the street a sense of warmth and security.

Manitoba Hydro Place is the most energy efficient tower in North America and a model of urban, bioclimatic integrated design. In addition to massive energy savings (66% better than the MNECB), urban revitalization was a key objective of Manitoba Hydro for bringing 2000 employees from the suburbs into its new headquarters in downtown Winnipeg. The design prioritizes the creation of spaces for public use, including a new urban park and a three-storey street-level Public Galleria which functions both as a sheltered pedestrian route and major event space.

In dismantling the expressway and requalifying Montreal’s main gateway, the Bonaventure project recognizes the importance of revitalizing the sector by creating an attractive community. The proposed concept favours alternative modes of transportation, quality urban development, the integration of public art and the design of a safe living environment. Covering an area of nearly 110,000 m2, the new Quartier Bonaventure will be a diversified community comprising offices, housing, a hotel, businesses and several green spaces.
