The Canadian Handbook of Practice for Architects was first published in 1999 with the 2nd Edition released in 2009, the year after the first smartphone and the year before the first tablet. In the intervening years, changes in building and urban design requirements, industry practices, and technology require that the CHOP be updated. The provincial regulators and the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada (RAIC) have embarked on the CHOP 3rd Edition Project.

The responsibilities of the Editorial Board are:
- Review and analyze feedback about the current use of the CHOP and suggestions for the 3rd Edition;
- Develop the initial table of contents for the 3rd edition;
- Support the Editor‐in‐Chief in recruitment of subject matter experts;
- Review content generated by contracted subject matter experts and providing editorial comment;
- Arrive at a consensus on the final draft of all content;
- Authorize the release of content for formatting, graphic design, and multi‐platform
- delivery;
- Prepare a lessons‐learned report, and
The Editorial Board is the final authority on the content of the CHOP. The Editorial Board reports their activities to the CHOP Steering Committee. The Steering Committee ratifies Editorial Board decisions.Although the Editorial Board is the final arbiter of content, the Steering Committee shall adjudicate any dispute between the Editorial Board and regulators.
