Lansdowne Park

Award Category:
Civic Design Projects

The recreated Lansdowne Park, resulting from the winning vision of an international design competition, has restored a long-neglected site at the heart of the national capital in Ottawa to its rich continuum of exhibition, display, and recreation. The park features a Great Lawn, an urban square for the Ottawa Farmers’ Market, events plazas, new topography and intimate greens. It also has civic gardens and orchards, a refrigerated rink and play spaces, public artworks and a year-round program of special events.

Jury Comment(s):

"This project is within walking distance to the Ottawa downtown core and successfully achieves feelings of leisure, space and delight. Its success in attracting nearby residents and becoming a hub of activity is a testament to the strength of key design features such as a state of the art playground and unique and well-crafted benches. The use of colour and light also makes this design exciting and inviting at night and throughout the year."
