College of Fellows Centennial Fund - Call for Submissions

Background

The College of Fellows (COF) Centennial Fund for Interns or Intern Architects was created in 2007 with donations received from Members of the College of Fellows and Members of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada (RAIC) to support a deserving Intern or Intern Architect or group of Interns/Intern Architects wishing to promote the value and image of the profession. 
 
The terms of reference were revised in 2024 to extend the eligibility of the grants awarded by the COF Centennial Fund to graduates of an accredited Canadian school of architecture and graduates of the RAIC Syllabus program, in addition to Interns/Intern Architects. 
 

Eligibility

The grants from the RAIC Foundation COF Centennial Fund for Graduates of Architecture and Interns/Intern Architects may be awarded to: 
  • Any RAIC member who is a recent graduate of an accredited Canadian school of architecture; 
  • Any RAIC member who is a recent graduate of the RAIC Syllabus program; 
  • Any RAIC member who is an Intern or Intern Architect registered with a provincial/territorial association at the time of the submission deadline.

A team, at least half of which are recent graduates of an accredited Canadian school of architecture, recent graduates of the RAIC Syllabus program, interns who are members of the RAIC, or both graduates and interns can submit a collective candidacy and proposal. 
 

Submission Requirements

Submissions must be for a proposed project that will promote the value and image of the architectural profession to the general public. Winning projects have included (but are not limited to) publications, events, exhibitions and other advocacy initiatives.
 
 
 Each entry must include the following: 
 Part 1: 
  • a brief biography (1 page) - if the submission is for a team, each team member must submit their biography; 
  • two letters of support from those familiar with the quality of the graduate or the intern architect’s   work or service. The letters must set out specific reasons for support. If the submission is for a team, there must be as many letters as necessary to provide at least one letter of support for each member of the team. 
  • Permission for submission content to be used by the RAIC Foundation for promotion of its awards program
  • A completed image index, providing captions and full credit information for each image, if applicable.
  • Provide a 100-word abstract summarizing the submission, to be used for possible promotional and / or marketing purposes.
 
Part 2: 
  • Summary description of the project proposal (objectives and methodology) – (Maximum 2 pages) – Include a clear description of the final product, who will be the beneficiary (audience) and how it will contribute to promoting the profession to the general public. 
 

Adjudication 

The jury’s decision will be final. At its discretion, the jury may elect to award only one grant, or not to award any grant. 
 
Payment of the Grants
 
75% of the grant($3750) will be paid to the recipients upon announcement of the award by the jury. The remaining 25 % of the amount of each grant ($1250) will be paid when the recipient submits the description of their completed project as follows:

Grant recipients will be required to submit  a brief description of their completed project to the RAIC Foundation within 12 months of the award, including permission to upload it to the Foundation’s website. 

 

Applications are to be submitted through the RAIC online submission platform.

Entries can be submitted either in English or in French.

All entries will be retained by the RAIC and RAIC Foundation for publication, exhibition and archival purposes. 

Note: Once you have started the online submission process, you may 'save' and come back at a later date to complete your submission (prior to the submission deadline).

Submissions must be received before 10:00 p.m. ET, May 2, 2025. Entrants are solely responsible for timely submissions. This date and time are firm without exceptions.
