The RAIC invites you to join us for a special practice resource webinar on professionalism and allyship for LGBTQ+ identities. This webinar will introduce the relevance and importance of embracing gender and sexual diversity in the workplace and beyond. Topics will include differentiating between sex, gender, and sexual orientation, changes in terminology and language, defining identities, and how to be an ally while maintaining professionalism.  

 

Learning Outcomes:  

At the end of the session, participants will be able to: 

  • Articulate the difference between gender, sex, and sexual orientation 
  • Identify appropriate use of pronouns and inclusive language as it relates to sex, gender, and sexual orientation
  • Describe actions that demonstrate active allyship 

 

Subject Matter Expert:

 

 

Holly Reid is an occupational therapist and Ph.D. student in the UBC rehabilitation sciences program. Holly began working in mental health as a new grad, transitioned to acute care, then to a community setting in their hometown on unceded WSANEC territory on what settlers called Vancouver Island. Holly discovered their Metis identity later in life and is also of Scottish immigrant lineage on their father's side. Their passion, interests and research center on how the aspects of identity (such as race, age, gender, sex, disability status) intersect to influence occupational and social experiences. Holly is trans non-binary and uses gender neutral pronouns (they/them).
