Job Description

AECOM is seeking an Design Architect to join our team. This position could be based out of any of the following locations: Kitchener, ON; London, ON; Mississauga, ON. This person will focus on the design of public safety and institutional projects. 

Position Summary:

To support our continued success in the Public Safety and Justice Market Sector, we are actively seeking a highly motivated Design Architect to provide leadership in project management, design, and business development. In the project leader role, you will foster a collaborative team environment and promote an integrated approach to delivering successful projects.  As a strategic collaborator, you will communicate and coordinate with various stakeholders, including clients, communities, authorities, contractors, trades, and other consulting professionals. 

Within an integrated team environment, you will lead projects, and project pursuits/opportunities, at multiple scales, and work with market sector leadership to expand the public safety and justice portfolio, including, police, paramedic, fire, courthouse, and correctional facilities.  As a result, the core responsibilities include project management, design, and business development.  Project specific security clearance will be a requirement.

Role and Responsibilities:

Design leadership to produce creative, functional, and innovative designs for Public Safety & Justice clients from concept to close-out
Manage projects throughout design
Lead and prepare design and contract documents, facilitate document coordination, ensure quality review, provide construction review, and administer contracts
Develop and promote design excellence standards
Business Development (marketing, proposal development, fee preparation)
Maintain technical quality standards 
Advocate for collaboration and integrated design
Develop and maintain client relationships
Support the construction administration team
Work on multiple projects in a dynamic, multi-disciplinary team environment.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

In order to be considered for this position, candidates must possess no less than: 

University Degree in Architecture
Registered Architect with the OAA – 6+ years
Experience working with Public Safety and Justice clients
Demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education may be considered.

Preferred Requirements:

Prefer 10 (ten)+ years of Architectural experience working with Public Safety and Justice clients
Registration with AAA/AIBC/OAQ/AIA is an asset
LEED certification and project experience is an asset
Demonstrated experience with project leadership and managing complex projects
Knowledge of building systems and construction detailing
Technical knowledge of building systems and specifications
Understanding of sustainable design best practices
Strong drawing and visual/graphic communication skills
Knowledge of REVIT and BIM project integration skills
Proficient with MS Office, MS Project, Adobe Suite, and visualization software
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Understanding local building codes and regulations
