About the Faculty of Engineering and Architectural Science (FEAS)
Ranking 5th in Canada for engineering research citation impact, the Faculty of Engineering and Architectural Science (FEAS) boasts 250+ active research partnerships and supports approximately 5,000 undergraduate and over 1,000 graduate students in their programs and 32,000 alumni worldwide. FEAS invests heavily in their student’s development and success and is accredited by both the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board (CEAB) and the Canadian Architectural Certification Board (CACB).

It is within this context that TMU invites applications and nominations for the position of Dean, Faculty of Engineering and Architectural Science, to commence February 1, 2025, or soon after. This is a five-year term position with an opportunity for renewal.

Reporting to the Provost and Vice President Academic, as part of TMU’s senior administrative team, the Dean is the chief academic, executive, and fiscal officer of the Faculty of Engineering and Architectural Science. The Dean provides leadership and oversight of the strategic, academic, intellectual, accreditation and administrative affairs of the Faculty.

The Dean will bring demonstrable knowledge of the postsecondary education environment, expertise in educational governance, progressive administrative experience, and notable research and teaching accomplishments. Ideal candidates have a proven track record of collaboratively creating and translating a strategic vision, ensuring buy-in from all stakeholders. They will demonstrate a productive record of academic planning, managing budgets, and allocating resources across multiple departments and will facilitate and enhance endeavours in all areas of the Faculty, including internationalization and advancement.

As the champion of the FEAS faculty, the ideal candidate fosters an open and collegial style, encouraging input and participation from faculty members. They demonstrate outstanding communication and relationship building skills, as well as passion for student success, nurturing collaborative teams, and engagement with external stakeholders. They also bring a proven commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, accessibility, and the recommendations of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.

The successful candidate must:
● Possess a PhD or other relevant terminal degree;
● Bring a distinguished track record of academic and scholarly achievement that merits appointment as a full professor in one of FEAS academic areas; and,
● Be licensed as a Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario or be eligible for a license.

The processes related to the recruitment and selection of the successful candidate are governed by the Appointment of Academic Administrators Policy and Procedures (the “AAA Policy”). Once in this position, the Dean shall be an “associate member” of the Toronto Metropolitan Faculty Association [TFA] (www.rfanet.ca) in accordance with the TFA Collective Agreement.
