Building Regulations and Authorities Having Jurisdiction
Examine the architect's duty to the public through the interpretation and adherence to various statutes, codes, standards, and by-laws at this session, featuring the chapter 2.4 of the Canadian Handbook of Practice for Architects (CHOP). This essential guide provides valuable insights into the professional practice of architecture in Canada.
Chapter 2.4: Building Regulations and Authorities Having Jurisdiction
We'll discuss the complex regulatory environment that architects must navigate for every project, which includes multiple levels of government (municipal, provincial, federal, and First Nations) and various regulatory authorities. This chapter highlights the importance of understanding regulations governing different types of buildings and issues such as toxic materials, pollution, fire safety, seismic performance, accessibility, and sustainability measures. We'll also explore the architect's role in being aware of construction safety regulations and environmental assessment requirements, and how these can impact project funding, schedules, and costs.
