The Construction Industry and Consultants
Dive deeper into the organization of the construction industry and the importance of consultants in achieving successful building projects at this session, featuring chapters 2.1 and 2.3 of the Canadian Handbook of Practice for Architects (CHOP). This essential guide provides valuable insights into the professional practice of architecture in Canada.
Chapter 2.1: The Construction Industry
We'll discuss the complex network of professionals, technical experts, skilled constructors, trades, product manufacturers, suppliers, and regulatory authorities that form the supply chain of the design-construction industry. This chapter emphasizes the importance of understanding the roles and responsibilities of each player in transforming a design into a building. We'll also explore the division of the construction industry into building construction and heavy civil works construction, and the market forces, techniques, materials, and labor forces unique to each sub-sector.
Chapter 2.3: Consultants
This chapter highlights the critical role of clients in achieving good architecture. We'll discuss the various types of clients, ranging from individuals to multinational corporations, and the importance of establishing and nurturing successful relationships with them. Unlike customers who purchase goods, clients purchase professional services, making their relationship with architects essential for successful projects.
Speaker Don Ardiel, B.Arch., MDE, OAA, PMP.
