Embedding Smart Buildings Technology Strategy Early in the Design Process

This webinar is part of the RAIC 2024 Conference on Architecture, now available to stream!

Topics: Innovation in Materials, Technology and Construction

Length: 1 hour | What's Included: Video, Quiz, and Certificate of Completion

The rapid pace of advancements in smart buildings technologies, such as cloud computing, 5G networks, advanced IoT sensors, artificial intelligence (AI), smart lighting, and advanced Building Automation Systems, has reached a point where early collaboration between architects, engineers and owners can design optimized buildings that meets energy, technology and operational objectives. Delaying the integration of technology until after design and construction are complete is typically more costly, difficult and time consuming than if it had been considered in the early design stages. This session will explore how architects and engineers can consider the needs of all stakeholders to ensure occupant comfort and safety, operational efficiency, design aesthetic, sustainability and business goals. Smart buildings technologies can add value to the overall design in meeting the needs of building occupants and supporting the design vision.

By the completion of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Identify opportunities to propose and integrate smart building technologies in early-stage planning and design
  • Explain how to use smart buildings technologies in collecting and analyzing post-occupancy building data to enhance design solutions for retrofits/renovations of existing spaces
  • Describe how overall sustainability of a building through improved energy efficiency can be supported by smart buildings technologies
