The building sector is responsible for 40% of global CO2 emissions. As part of a larger national capacity and skill-building project, the RAIC held a training program during Congress 2023 to increase low-carbon awareness among architects. To increase access to a larger audience, the RAIC will be hosting a live webinar version of the training over four Tuesdays in February: 6, 13, 20, 27, 2024. Each module is 90 minutes in duration.

This workshop is a collaboration with the Canada Green Building Council as part of the Low Carbon Training Program. This program is funded in part by the Government of Canada's Sectoral Workforce Solutions Program.

Responding to RFPs is part of professional life for most architects. Architects occasionally encounter RFP processes that seem unclear, inequitable, or even impose unprofessional conditions on proponents. To support architects responding to such RFPs, often under time constraints, the RAIC is developing a tool for addressing potentially inappropriate RFPs. This tool is intended to supplement, not replace, the guidelines for RFP development in the Canadian Handbook of Practice for Architects (CHOP) (2020, see Appendix B).  

The intention is that if RAIC members come across an RFP of concern, they will be able to refer it to the RAIC for review and response. Reviews will be conducted using a guiding set of questions mapped to the CHOP.  

We are sharing the draft Checklist with the RAIC community and want to hear from you. The document includes ten criteria for review as well as details on application of the Checklist, and actions to be taken based on the review.

The editors of Architectural Record are looking for the best emerging firms and practitioners from around the world to include in their 2024 cohort of Design Vanguard. The award program recognizes 10 leading young firms and individuals who represent the promise of the next generation of architects. 

A number of previous winners have been practitioners based in Canada. 

Submissions are due February 1, 2024, 11:59 PM ET and winners will be featured in their upcoming June issue.

Regional committees shall: 

• Serve as standing committees in each region of the country to provide a focus for the region’s RAIC College activities. 
• Participate as broadly as possible in the affairs of the RAIC College including: 
• Provide a focus for regional communication and feedback to the National Committee. 
• Play a major role in the annual nomination process for new members of the College including identifying and facilitating nominations, receiving and review all nominations for Fellowship from the region.  
• Organize an annual regional event for local members of the RAIC College and undertake fund raising activities in support of the RAIC Foundation.
