As a step along the path to Reconciliation, the RAIC will commemorate this year’s National Day for Truth and Reconciliation through a series of events during the week of September 26-30, 2022.

Join the RAIC Indigenous Task Force (ITF) and Truth and Reconciliation Task Force virtually to hear sessions by the RAIC’s Indigenous education provider NVision, as well as stories and truths from ITF Members. Learn more.

Nominate your colleagues and peers for Fellowship in the RAIC. The College of Fellows formally recognizes members and distinguished laypersons who have made outstanding contributions to the profession in design, scholarship, or service to the profession or the community.

Nominations for Honorary Fellowship 
 
An Honorary Fellow of the RAIC College is an Honorary Member of the RAIC who has achieved international professional eminence or has rendered distinctive service to the profession or to the community at large, nationally or internationally. Architects registered in Canada are not eligible for nomination. Nomination and advancement to Honorary Fellowship is administered by the RAIC College. Honorary Fellowship is bestowed for life and is one of the highest honours the RAIC can confer upon a Member. 
 
A Fellow of the Institute may nominate any individual for Honorary Fellowship of the RAIC College. Nominations require the support of at least two (2) Members as References. Honorary Fellowship will be considered for an international architect, or allied professional in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the built environment. 
 
We invite all members of the RAIC to nominate an individual.

It was three years in the making for a two-night event at Toronto Harbourfront Centre that became the Architectural hot spot in the city. As the first Canadian city to host the Renzo Piano Building Workshop (RPBW) Exhibit, Piece by Piece, on Friday, July 15, 2022, guests were treated to decades of the famous Italian architect’s work, followed by the premier screening of Inside the Renzo Piano Building Workshop on Saturday, July 16, 2022.

In consultation with the Fees and Procurement Working Group, the RAIC has established a survey for intern architects to gather data related to salaries.

This information will be used to build an understanding of current compensation rates, illustrate the fair market compensation for intern architects employed in Canada, and regional variations across the country in terms of compensation and benefits and gather information to inform advocacy and outreach efforts.

The RAIC is seeking a volunteer professional advisor to participate in the process of administering many of the RAIC’s Awards. The volunteer professional advisor is a licensed or formerly licensed architect or a current or retired member of faculty in a college/university architecture program who acts as a fairness monitor and represents the interests of the submitters/candidates in a neutral manner throughout the jurying process. 
 
The professional advisor is supported by RAIC staff who take the primary responsibility for organizing, convening, and managing award submissions and jury meetings; and by the RAIC Awards Advisory Committee. The professional advisor is an ex-officio, non-voting member of the RAIC Awards Advisory Committee. 
 
RAIC members in good standing who are licensed or formerly licensed architects or are current or retired members of faculty in a college/university architecture program are eligible to apply.

CAGBC recently introduced the latest version of its Zero Carbon Building – Design Standard, a new version that prioritizes reductions in carbon emissions and embodied carbon and encourages energy-efficient design that promotes good grid citizenship.

ZCB-Design v3 offers additional thermal energy demand intensity (TEDI) flexibility to incentivize projects to move away from combustion. Projects that eliminate combustion for space heating are no longer required to meet a TEDI target. Now design teams can optimize their building enclosures and HVAC design for the best possible returns. ZCB-Design v3 also puts a limit on combustion, preventing it from being used unless the outdoor air temperature is below -10 C. This change ensures electrification of heating is the new default, only stopping at the point of system limitation. Today, all heat pump applications have options available to -10 C, while some go as low as -30 C. By choosing -10 C, the Standard doesn’t prescribe a solution but makes substantial electrification a requirement.
