The Royal Architectural Institute of Canada (RAIC) and the Canadian Council of University Schools of Architecture (CCUSA) present the Academic Summit on Architecture. This summit presents papers and projects from schools of architecture featuring the latest in research from academics and practitioners in the fields of architecture and design.

RAIC Indigenous Architecture and Design Symposium (June 23 and June 24) 

The RAIC International Indigenous Architecture and Design Symposium is hosted by the RAIC Indigenous Task Force. The Symposium focuses on Indigenous representation, narratives, and collaborations. The three streams for the 2021 Symposium are:  

• First Nations, Metis, and Inuit Housing / International Indigenous Housing
• Making Room for New Indigenous Voices on the Leading Edge of Architecture Practice
• Collaborations: Indigenous / Non-Indigenous Co-Design and Building with First Nations, Metis and Inuit Communities

The process has begun to select the RAIC Director to represent the Atlantic on the RAIC Board of Directors. The voting period runs for thirty (30) days and uses electronic ballots.  
 

A personalized link was emailed to eligible voters on Monday, March 15, 2021. The ballots must be completed and submitted by April 14 at 8:00 p.m. ET. 

Members of the RAIC College of Fellows are invited to nominate their peers for the position of Dean of the College of Fellows. The term of Thomas Emodi, FRAIC, of Halifax, current Dean ends June 21, 2021. He has confirmed that he will be standing for re-election. 

The Dean’s responsibilities include management of regional chapters, committee memberships, and national screening co-ordination. 

The Dean will serve a three-year term, which begins at the College of Fellows Annual Meeting in June 2021. 

The deadline for nominations is April 2, 2021 at 5:00 pm ET. 

The National Urban Design Awards of the RAIC, Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP) and the Canadian Society of Landscape Architects (CSLA) recognize excellence in urban design and demonstrate its importance to the general public. The Urban Design Awards program was established in 2006 to recognize individuals, organizations, firms, and projects that have contributed to the quality of life and sustainability in Canadian cities. 

The two-tiered program is a cooperative venture between the RAIC, CIP, CSLA and Canadian municipalities. 

In the first year of a two-year cycle, Canadian municipalities will administer a local, RAIC/CIP/CSLA endorsed, Urban Design Award Program. 

In the second year, the RAIC/CIP/CSLA will conduct a National Urban Design Awards program.  Participants will include winners from Canadian municipalities and be an open competition so that worthy initiatives undertaken in other communities across Canada may also be recognized.

The following cities have established local Urban Design Award programs. Winners from these programs are invited to submit to the National Urban Design Awards.

The 2021 Virtual Conference of the Society of Architectural Historians will bring scholars, practitioners, professionals, and students in architectural history and related fields together online to share new research on the history of the built environment, engage in thought-provoking conversations, and connect with colleagues from around the world. The Virtual Conference will take place between Tuesday, April 13, and Saturday, April 17, and will include 36 paper sessions with live Q&A, a social hour, the SAH Business Meeting, a pre-conference workshop, keynote talks, the annual SAH Awards Ceremony, and the SAH Montréal Seminar.
