• The RAIC continues to work on increasing access to online events. We are currently testing closed captioning and post-event transcript access, with the goal of adding these features to as many webinars and online sessions whenever possible and feasible.

• The RAIC participates in the quarterly national Construction Industry Roundtable meetings led by Public Services and Procurement Canada.

• The RAIC is an active member of the Federal/Industry Real Property Advisory Council BIM Working Group, to help the Government of Canada plan for the implementation of BIM to existing and new government buildings.

The RAIC is seeking four (4) volunteers to join the Practice Support Committee, an operational committee of the RAIC.

The purpose of the Practice Committee is to engage the knowledge and experience of members and fellows to: a) guide, develop and maintain appropriate resources to support architectural practice in Canada; and b) provide regular insight into the evolution, unmet needs, and challenges of architectural practice in Canada to inform advocacy initiatives and the practice support services offered by the RAIC; and to support the Director of Practice in his engagement with members and other agencies.

We seek individuals who will contribute their unique skills to create a broad pool of knowledge and experience within the committee, covering:

• Marketing and managing client relationships
• Negotiating and managing contracts for architectural services and consultant services
• Construction Tendering, contract administration and construction review services
• Construction Law and Dispute resolution
• Working drawings and specification writing
• Building Information Modelling (BIM)
• Sustainable design and construction practices
• Management of architectural practice

The resources to be developed, and maintained by the Committee are:

• Standard contracts between Client and Architect; and
• Standard contracts between Architect and Consultants; and
• Supporting documentation and guides for the use of these standard contracts; and
• RAIC Guide to Determining Appropriate Fees for the Services of an Architect
• Other resource documents or materials determined valuable to Canadian Architectural practice, or as
• assigned by the CEO.

Members are invited to nominate candidates to stand for election for the positions of Regional Director of Alberta and the Northwest Territories, Regional Director of Saskatchewan, Regional Director of Quebec, Regional Director of the Atlantic, and Director representing Interns and Intern Architects. The term of office for each Director is three years, beginning July 1, 2021.

Additionally, the entire program will be archived for on-demand access until December 31, 2022, allowing you to fit the Conference content to your unique schedule. Registration for the RAIC 2021 Virtual Conference on Architecture will be open on February 22, 2021.
