Parks Canada recently announced its intent to hold an international architectural design competition for the redevelopment of the 200-Block of Banff Avenue, which will house purpose-built spaces and facilities to support visitor reception, enjoyment and connection with the rest of the park, and foster understanding of the challenges faced by protected areas like Banff National Park.  

Given the scope of the project, the RAIC has been engaged to oversee the competition. Concluding in March of 2026, the competition will follow established standards and protocols and bring professional expertise to the evaluation process to generate conceptual designs for the site.   

The RAIC is gearing up for the 2026 Conference on Architecture, happening May 5-9, 2026 in Vancouver, and we need your expertise. We’re assembling a Local Advisory Group to help plan exciting architectural tours, social events, a studio crawl, and more. Apply to join by May 31, 2025.
