The event takes place on October 29 as part of the 2019 RAIC Festival of Architecture in Toronto in collaboration with the Danish Association of Architectural Firms and the Danish Trade Council.

The 2019 fee guide explores the scope of both basic and additional architectural services, the value of architectural services, different approaches to determining a fee structure, and how architectural services fees can be calculated.

The RAIC and the RAIC Foundation are pleased to announce the three winners of the 2019 RAIC International Prize Scholarships. They are Laure Nolte, Dalhousie University; Lucie Palombi, University of Montreal; and Odudu Umoessien, University of Manitoba.

Each student has won a $5,000 scholarship for writing an essay describing the moment they decided to become an architect or knew their decision to become an architect was the right one.

To meet Canada's growing need for highly qualified heritage conservation professionals, the RAIC has developed a unique learning experience based on new and emerging technologies for the study and conservation of heritage buildings. The workshop takes place from November 15 to 17, 2019 in Ottawa. Participants earn 20 learning credits.

For over three decades, the Rick Hansen Foundation (RHF) has raised awareness and changed attitudes about the potential of people with disabilities and funded spinal cord injury research and care. Today, the RHF is working to break down one of the most fundamental barriers that people with disabilities face: physical barriers in the places where we live, work, learn, and play.

RHF created Rick Hansen Foundation Accessibility Certification™ (RHFAC) to improve accessibility in the built environment. RHFAC is a comprehensive rating system that helps owners and tenants measure the accessibility of their buildings and sites and promotes increased access through the adoption of universal design principles. Architects, general contractors, engineers, urban planners, design-builders, or anyone interested in accessibility will gain knowledge and practical skills from the RHFAC professional designation.

RAIC members are invited to attend the opening ceremonies for a new exhibit featuring the early work of RAIC Gold Medalist Raymond Moriyama, FRAIC.

There will also be free tours of 123 Wynford Drive (Noor Centre) with Raymond Moriyama from noon to 1:00 p.m. before the opening.

The 7th Active House Symposium will be held in Toronto on September 16 to 17. Architects can earn up to 10 hours of continuing education and OAA structured learning credits for attending the symposium.  

Active House is a European building practice that is based on a balanced and holistic approach to building design and performance. The vision of Active House is to encourage buildings that create healthier and more comfortable lives for their occupants without a negative impact on the climate - moving towards a cleaner, healthier, and safer world. 

RAIC members are invited to submit designs to protect the archaeological remains of the Roman Villa of Rabaçal in Penela, Portugal. Designs should include visitor opportunities, a museum, spaces for educational services, and more.

First prize is 10,000 Euros, second prize is 5,000 Euros, and third prize is 2,500 Euros.
