Reconciling Reconciliation Through Design

For the third year in a row, the RAIC is planning to commemorate the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation with a special online event.

We are honoured to welcome David Fortin, PhD, OAA, SAA, Architect AAA, AIBC, MRAIC, Leed AP who will be speaking on the topic” Reconciling Reconciliation Through Design.”

Each year, September 30 marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Architecture can contribute positively to societal change. This session will explore how architectural practices in Canada can positively contribute to reconciliation and asks what this may mean.

Taking an Indigenous perspective into account provides an opportunity to build awareness about the relationship between reconciliation and design. This is an Indigenous-led session that will explore how Indigenous values can influence design in architecture and how the design process itself can be understood as relationship building in pursuit of common goals.

The RAIC is grateful for and honours the generosity of the members of the RAIC Truth and Reconciliation Task Force who have been supporting the development of this commemoration event.
