These scholarships are to financially assist students applying to the Master’s programs at the three schools of architecture in the Southwest Ontario region: University of Toronto, Toronto Metropolitan University, and the University of Waterloo.

Eligibility & Submission Rules

Background

For several years, the Southwest Ontario Chapter of the RAIC College of Fellows has donated the proceeds from its annual fundraising event to the RAIC Foundation, supporting its various awards programs and related administrative activities. In 2024, the Southwest Ontario Fellows decided to allocate a portion of these proceeds to a new set of scholarships to benefit students at the three accredited architecture schools (as noted above) in their region.

Eligibility

Students who have been accepted and are enrolled in the first year of study in the Master of Architecture program at one of the three schools of architecture in the Southwest Ontario region are eligible to apply for these scholarships.

Amount

Six scholarships of $2,500 will be awarded each year, as follows: two to students from the University of Toronto; two to students from Toronto Metropolitan University and two to students from the University of Waterloo; , unless there is only one or no applicant from any of the schools. No more than two scholarships shall be awarded to recipients from the same school in any given year.

Selection Criteria

The students applying for the Southwest Ontario COF Admissions Scholarships must demonstrate to the selection committee that they are the most deserving based upon their academic achievement and their financial need.

Submission Requirements

• Proof of the applicant’s enrolment in the Master of Architecture program of one of the three schools of architecture of the Southwest Ontario region (such as a receipt issued by the school showing registration with tuition fees paid)
• Academic record of the applicant (such as an unofficial transcript from their undergraduate level school)
• Brief justification (150 words maximum) of the applicant’s financial need
Letter of support from a member of the faculty of the applicant’s undergraduate level school

Adjudication

The RAIC Foundation Trustees will appoint a selection committee of three persons, which will include:
• Two Trustees of the RAIC Foundation
• A faculty member of a Canadian registered school of architecture.
