The RAIC Education Award recognizes an individual who has made an outstanding and sustained contribution to architectural education in Canada. The award advances the RAIC’s mission to advocate for excellence in the built environment by acknowledging the essential role of education in shaping future architects and strengthening the profession.
This award honours educators who have made long-standing academic contributions demonstrating leadership, mentorship, innovation, and/or service to students, academia, and the architectural profession. It also reinforces connections between academia and professional practice, fostering collaboration and shared values across Canadian universities with an architecture program.
Rules and Regulations
Eligibility
Nominees must meet the following criteria:
A minimum of 10 years of experience as an architectural educator in a Canadian university architectural program.
Demonstrated outstanding contributions to architectural education through one or more of the following areas:
Teaching and pedagogy
Research and scholarship
Academic or institutional leadership
Professional practice and its integration into education
Service to students, academia, and/or the architectural profession
Nomination
3. Call for Nominations
Nominations are accepted through an open call issued by the RAIC.
Third-party nominations only.
Self-nominations will not be accepted.
Nominators may include colleagues, institutions, professional peers, former students, or organizations familiar with the nominee’s work and impact.
Submission Requirements
4. Submission Materials
A complete nomination package must include the following:
Completed nomination form
Letter of nomination (maximum 2 pages) outlining the nominee’s qualifications, impact, and alignment with the award’s purpose
Nominee’s current curriculum vitae (maximum 10 pages)
Three (3) letters of support, including at least one (1) from a former student who has graduated in the last five (5) years.
Optional supporting materials, maximum of 25 pages, such as examples of student work, publications, or other relevant documentation demonstrating the nominee’s contribution to architectural education
Selection Process
Recipients are selected by a jury appointed by the RAIC Awards Advisory Committee.
The Jury will evaluate nominations based on the nominee’s depth, quality, and sustained impact on architectural education in Canada, as well as alignment with the RAIC’s mission and values.
Deadline
Nominations must be received before 10:00 p.m. ET, Monday, January 11, 2027. Entrants are solely responsible for timely nominations. This date and time are firm without exceptions.
