The Royal Architectural Institute of Canada (RAIC) was pleased to serve as a patron of the Applied Engineering & Architecture Students Organization’s (AEASO) panel, AI in the Practice of Architecture panel hosted at the University of Toronto’s John H. Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape and Design on March 17th .

RAIC Chief Executive Officer, Mike Brennan, and Chief Learning and Development Officer, Brenda Lammi, opened the session with an overview of RAIC’s strategic priorities related to artificial intelligence in architecture. These include the development of a new AI + Architecture certification program, a forthcoming position statement, and ongoing exploration of contextual AI applications. Also present were the Chair of the RAIC’s Advisors to Professional Practice Silvio Baldassarra and RAIC’s Manager of Executive Services, Danielle Catley.

Facilitated by Yew-Thong Leong FRAIC, panelists Paul H. Harrison, Suzan Ibrahim, Victor Lima, and Zenon Radewych, shared perspectives on ethical standards and professional responsibilities in the use of AI. The discussion addressed key issues including authorship, design integrity, and the evolving role of architects in an AI-enabled practice environment.

The RAIC remains committed to supporting the profession in navigating the opportunities and risks associated with AI, advancing a balanced approach that promotes innovation, accountability, and public interest.
