It’s with sadness we announce the passing of Michael Joseph Torsney on November 30th, 2023. Michael was born in Dublin, Ireland, and graduated from Blackrock College with a degree in Architecture in 1955. He later moved to England where he completed his internship and became a member of the Royal Society of Architects of Ireland.

In 1957, Michael and his family moved to Hamilton, Ontario, where he obtained his Canadian professional designation in 1959. He became a member of the Ontario Association of Architects and the Royal Institute of Architects of Canada. In 1962, he founded his own architectural firm. Michael had a passion for designing swimming pools and sports complexes, as well as a variety of projects. Some of his notable projects include the Dundas Public Library, the first St. Joseph's Villa, the Unified Family Court, and the Ronald McDonald House.

Michael was an active member of the Ontario Association of Architects and served on its board. He was also honored as a Fellow of the Royal Institute of Architects of Canada in 1992. To read more about his many contributions, please click here.
