Volunteer Opportunities – Commonwealth Association of Architects
Job Description
The The Commonwealth Association of Architects (CAA) is seeking experienced and committed leaders to serve as Chairpersons for two of its Standing Committees:
- Education Steering Committee
- Professional Practice Steering Committee
These are key international leadership roles that contribute directly to advancing architectural education and professional practice across the Commonwealth.
As a Committee Chairperson, you will provide strategic leadership and oversight to a CAA Standing Committee, permanent bodies established to support ongoing priorities aligned with the CAA Strategic Business Plan. This is an opportunity to shape global conversations, influence policy and practice, and collaborate with peers from across diverse regions and contexts.
Chairpersons are expected to:
- Lead the Committee in accordance with its approved Terms of Reference
- Develop and oversee the implementation of a Committee work plan aligned with the CAA Strategic Business Plan
- Report regularly to CAA Council on activities, progress, and recommendations
- Coordinate Committee membership in collaboration with CAA Member Organisations
- Serve as a full voting member of CAA Council
- Represent Committee outputs and decisions at Council meetings
- Ensure continuity of work by maintaining records, work plans, and progress reports
Terms are typically aligned with the period between CAA General Assemblies (two years), and Chairpersons may serve up to two consecutive terms. Meetings may be held virtually, in person, or in a hybrid format, with each Committee determining its own meeting frequency and structure. Decisions are made by consensus wherever possible, or by simple majority vote when required. This is a volunteer role requiring a moderate but consistent time commitment, with flexibility to accommodate international participation.
Interested candidates are invited to submit an expression of interest no later than April 23, 2026, 8pm ET that includes a short professional bio (maximum 300 words) outlining their background, experience, and relevant leadership roles, along with a statement of interest (maximum 300 words) describing their motivation for applying, their area(s) of expertise, and the contribution they would bring to the Committee and the CAA. A high-resolution photograph (headshot suitable for publication) should also be included.
