AECOM’s growing Architectural Design practice, called Buildings + Places, is currently seeking a highly motivated Architect to be responsible for the architectural design of projects within the Kitchener office. We are looking for someone who is passionate about design and interested in advancing their career aspirations while building a stronger presence within the local and Canadian marketplace.

We are searching for someone who is creative and enjoys working within a strong multi-disciplinary team. Multi-tasking is very important for this position, combined with attention to detail, time management and organizational skills. Candidates must be dedicated to working hard with an all-hands-on-deck attitude towards completing the work efficiently and accurately to meet our client needs.

Responsibilities include client communication, coordination of architectural and engineering staff, schematic and conceptual design, design development, drawing review and contract administration. Mentoring and providing guidance to the project Team will be imperative. We are looking for someone to continue to build on existing strengths while working with the Canadian Architectural Practise Leadership to grow our key market sectors of Public Safety, Logistics and Public Realm. Candidates also require business development skills, including meeting with prospective clients, proposal preparation and preparing competitive fee estimates.

Our portfolio of work in Kitchener includes the Waterloo LRT, Barrie First Responders Campus, Region of Waterloo Paramedics HQ, Halton Region Police Division #1, Seaton Paramedics, Hamilton LRT, London BRT, Gordie Howe International Bridge, Logistics Facilities across Canada, Parks Canada Facilities across Canada, Process Operation Facilities for the Cities of Guelph, Kitchener and Waterloo, Shell Laboratories and the Walkerton Clean Water Centre. 

Major Responsibilities:

The job incumbent will be responsible for the architectural design as well as planning, coordination and control of several projects from inception to completion, with the goal of producing creative solutions to viable projects that will be completed on time within authorized cost and to the required quality, functionally and financial needs of our clients.
Creative problem solving in a collaborative environment.
Manages scope, schedule, budget, quality, safety, and change management.
Responsibilities include client communication, consultant coordination, design development, drawing review and contract administration.
Managing the production of drawings and reports.
Preparing and co-ordinating specifications
Supervising and co-ordinating the work of others and co-ordinating work with engineers of other disciplines
Working closely with team leader to lead Architectural Design
Managing project team to ensure production of deliverables to agreed timelines and within budget
Providing technical guidance and mentoring to junior members of the team
Manage financial and cost control aspects of architectural led projects
Communicate with construction team to provide information and solve problems

Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

University degree plus 4+ years of experience in Architectural design, planning, coordination and control of several projects.
Must be a Licensed Architect with the OAA and/or other Provinces, with OAA eligibility

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

We are looking for an individual with experience in public safety, municipal and logistics projects and broad skills in all phases of project delivery.
Strong, hands-on technical knowledge, document review, inter-disciplinary coordination skills.
Experience in field review and contract administration is essential.
Ability to work on a number of projects simultaneously in a dynamic, multi-disciplinary team environment.
Thorough knowledge of building systems and construction detailing.
Excellent communication and organizational skills.
Strong problem identification and problem resolution skills.
Demonstrated strong creativity in design.
Strong presentation skills.
Exceptional technical knowledge of building construction and the Ontario Building Code.
Ability to work within a dynamic multi-disciplinary in-house consultant team.
High level of sound and independent judgment and reasoning.
Experience managing time and budget of the project.
Experience with alternative delivery projects – Alliance Model, IPD, P3 and Design/Build is an asset.
Microsoft Office (Excel and Word), Outlook, Adobe
Proficiency in AutoCAD, Photoshop, Sketchup, and other artistic methods necessary to convey creative ideas
LEED certification and project experience is a strong asset
WELL certification and project experience is a strong asset
PMP Certification and Project Management Experience is an asset
