For the month of November, the RAIC is pleased to present a weekly series on the subject of Wood Architecture and Construction.

                          

The Arbour: A new Paradigm

SESSION:

The presentation will focus on the development of what is scheduled to be the first institutional, tall, mass timber project in Canada. George Brown College's the Arbour's international design competition resulted in a winning scheme designed by Moriyama & Teshima Architects and Acton Ostry Architects. The project is in the design development stages and well into its approval stages with the City of Toronto.

 

LEARNING OUTCOMES:
At the completion of this session, the participant/learner will be able to:

  • Participants will learn about a beamless transferrable structural system
  • Participants will learn about the supply chain in Canada for mass timber
  • Participants will learn the key design challenges associated with mass timber design and construction

Continuing education learning hours: 1 credit

Carol is a Partner with the renowned architecture firm Moriyama & Teshima Architects known for remarkable, innovative Canadian and International projects. Carol is Design Leader for many of the firm’s most valued projects.

A Fellow of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada, Carol’s excellent designs are distinguished by the spare but assertive use of materials and her practice is increasingly focused on low carbon and timber in search for solutions to the climate crisis. For Carol, the collaborative creative process is the basis of rich, inspired and innovative solutions to designs focused on connecting people to each other and to nature.
