The RAIC is thrilled to announce the launch of the RAIC Podcast on Architecture. This season is part of a series of activities and events leading up to the 2021 RAIC Congress on Architecture. Held on October 4, 2021 —World Architecture Day  — the inaugural Congress will address Climate Action and Architecture in Canada.  

In this season’s first episode, RAIC Congress on Architecture Steering Committee member Louis Conway talks with Seth Klein about mobilizing Canada for the Climate Emergency.

The RAIC is pleased to announce that four candidates have been selected to represent the Alberta and Northwest Territories, Saskatchewan, Atlantic and Interns and Intern Architects on the RAIC Board of Directors.  

The RAIC is seeking one RAIC member volunteer to join the RAIC Membership Committee.

The Government of Canada has launched an Engagement Paper on Canada’s first National Infrastructure Assessment: “Building the Canada We Want in 2050.” It sets out the purpose and benefits of undertaking a National Infrastructure Assessment and seeks input from the public, Indigenous peoples, provinces, territories, municipalities, and stakeholders on three main priorities of the assessment: 

1] Assessing Canada’s infrastructure needs and establishing a long-term vision; 
2] Improving coordination among infrastructure owners and funders; and 
3] Determining the best ways to fund and finance infrastructure. 

The National Infrastructure Assessment, once in place, will help identify Canada’s evolving needs and priorities in the built environment and undertake evidence-based long-term planning toward a net-zero emissions future.  

The RAIC is planning to respond to the Minister of Infrastructure and Communities engagement to help shape Canada’s first National Infrastructure Assessment. This engagement will give the RAIC the opportunity to provide feedback on the Assessment’s three priorities.

The RAIC is proud to announce the recipients of the Innovation in Architecture Award and the President’s Award for Multimedia Representations of Architecture for 2021. These awards are presented on a biannual basis as part of the RAIC Awards of Excellence program.

Anya Moryoussef, a Toronto-based architect known for considering every aspect of a client's needs before beginning her practice, is the recipient of the 2021 Emerging Architect Award from the RAIC.  
  
The Emerging Architect Award is to recognize an emerging architect for excellence in design, leadership and/or service to the profession. It is intended that this award will inspire other individuals to become licensed and to strive for excellence in their work.   

The National Urban Design Awards of the RAIC, Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP) and the Canadian Society of Landscape Architects (CSLA) recognize excellence in urban design and demonstrate its importance to the general public. In the first year of a two-year cycle, Canadian municipalities will administer a local, RAIC/CIP/CSLA endorsed, Urban Design Award Program. The municipal cycle is now open for submissions.
