The RAIC has made the difficult but necessary decision to cancel the Conference on Architecture and all pre-Conference events, scheduled for June 2 to 7, 2020 in Edmonton, Alberta.  

Creative problem solving is core to architectural practice and the RAIC is leveraging this strength in planning the next steps.  

To ease financial considerations that this cancellation may cause our participants, the RAIC has instituted a flexible refund policy that gives registrants the option to apply their registration fee to the 2021 RAIC Conference on Architecture in Montreal, apply the registration fee to the virtual Conference on Architecture (+ refund of difference) or receive a full refund.

If you or your organization would like to defer your registration investment to be applied to the next RAIC Conference on Architecture—scheduled for June 6-9, 2021 in Montreal—or the virtual Conference on Architecture, you must complete this survey by Monday, April 6, 2020. Otherwise, full refunds will be issued automatically within 30 days.

The RAIC has prepared a comprehensive FAQ for our valued delegates, pass holders, sponsors, and exhibitors. Updates will continue to be provided to our members through e-notices and raic.org.

On March 18, 2020, Prime Minister Trudeau announced what Canada’s COVID-19 Economic Response Plan would look like. 

In response, the RAIC sent a letter advocating for the architectural sector to be supported during this time and have access to this fund. On March 24, 2020, the RAIC sent a follow-up letter to Minister Morneau further advocating for the importance of the architectural sector having access to this fund. 

RAIC continues to take the immediate concerns of the architecture sector forward to the government, including the Minister of Finance and the Deputy Prime Minister. We will continue to make the case to the government that RAIC members and the entire architecture sector require access to funding. 

Many members are reaching out to the RAIC to assist during this difficult and unprecedented crisis. The RAIC is committed to offering national leadership and enable and leverage our collective voice. 

To support the RAIC to obtain a picture of the impacts of COVID-19 on the architectural sector we have created a COVID-19 Pulse Survey to collect information. This data will be used to inform RAIC activities (e.g. advocacy, continuing education, practice resources).

Although this situation remains unpredictable and we do not know how it will unfold, RAIC staff are working diligently to support RAIC members and the architectural sector. RAIC members are top of mind at this unprecedented time. 

Since the increasingly evolving situation around COVID-19, the RAIC’s Programs Office has worked diligently to transition all Continuing Education events and offerings from now until June 30, 2020 to digital platforms.  

With the success of one workshop held on March 20 and 21, the RAIC and its Continuing Education participants will continue to transition these offerings to a virtual platform!

Canada Green Building Council Scholarship for Sustainable Design and Research

Deadline: Monday, April 27, 2020, at 11:59 PM

– Open to full-time students registered in a Master’s degree program leading to a professional degree in architecture at an accredited University in Canada or the RAIC Syllabus program

This scholarship was established through an endowment from the Canada Green Building Council (CaGBC) in June 2006. The main purpose of the fund is to nurture the next generation of “green” designers by promoting and encouraging sustainable research and design in Canadian Schools of Architecture.
