The winner of one of the world’s largest international prizes for excellence in architecture will be a keynote speaker at IIDEXCanada.

Yui Tezuka, of Tokyo-based Tezuka Architects, will discuss the firm's winning project, Fuji Kindergarten, on November 30 from 2:30 to 3 p.m. The kindergarten is the recipient of Canada’s $100,000 Moriyama RAIC International Prize which celebrates a work of architecture that is judged to be transformative to its community and represents respect and inclusiveness.

The term of office is three years, beginning January 1, 2018. The successful candidates will succeed Carol Rogers, FRAIC, (Atlantic) and Tyler Loewen, MRAIC (Intern Director) whose terms end December 31, and John Brown, FRAIC (Alberta & Northwest Territories) who has been acclaimed as 1st Vice President.

As the intern representative on the RAIC Board of Directors, Tyler Loewen, MRAIC, put his passion for supporting emerging professionals to work on a national level. Along the way, he gained career-enhancing skills and a broader understanding of critical issues facing the architecture profession in Canada.

“There’s a lot of work that happens behind the scenes to ensure the profession stays healthy and successful,” says Loewen, whose term ends December 31. “All of us have a responsibility to help move the profession forward. For me, it offered a great opportunity to experience all facets of how the profession works.”

The RAIC is seeking a successor for Loewen and invites nominations for the position of Director representing Interns and Intern Architects. The term of office is three years, beginning January 1, 2018. The deadline for nominations is November 1.

Honour the achievements of your colleagues by nominating them for Fellowship in the RAIC in 2018.

The College of Fellows formally recognizes members and distinguished laypersons who have made outstanding contributions to the profession. Fellowship in the RAIC is an honour conferred on members singled out for their contribution to research, scholarship, public service or professional standing to the good of architecture in Canada, or elsewhere.

The deadline for members to submit their nominations to the College of Fellows regional chairs is October 31.

The RAIC and the Canada Council for the Arts invite architects to participate in the competition for the 2018 Governor General’s Medals in Architecture.

Awarded every two years, the medals recognize and celebrate outstanding design in recently completed built projects – big or small – by Canadian architects. They are among this country’s most prestigious and coveted architectural awards.

The 2018 competition will result in the awarding of 12 Governor General’s Medals in Architecture.

Submission deadline: December 1, 4 p.m. ET.
