The RAIC is embarking on an ambitious continuing education program in 2019. We are issuing a call for instructors and subject matter experts (SME) for the following RAIC continuing education offerings (2019):

Cross-country Workshops

Project Management for Architects – Montreal, Victoria, Winnipeg, Fredericton, and Toronto

Contracts – A Practical Approach (RAIC Documents Six and Nine, CCDC2, CCDC5a+b, CCDC15, CCDC30) – Locations TBD

Leaderships Skills for Architects – Locations TBD

Requirements

The RAIC is looking for SMEs to develop course content and instructors to deliver courses across the country. You may express interest in for both positions, or either of the above, as it is not necessarily for the role to be shared by one individual. All content created will remain the property of the RAIC.

Individuals with experience in curriculum development, face-to-face and/or online teaching, adult education, and professional development are strong preferred. They should also have practical experience in the area of study and in architecture in general. Bilingualism is an asset.

RAIC Emerging Practitioners (RAIC EP), is offering a continuing education webinar on the National Building Code of Canada Part 9 (in English). The course is designed to bridge the path between architectural education and practice; providing practical knowledge and experience aligned with the Internship in Architecture (IAP) program’s requirements.

NBC Part 9 Housing and Small Buildings (English) will be presented by experts from Vortex Fire Protection, Coolearth Architecture Inc., and Moses Structural Engineers. The webinar will cover the Health, Egress, Building Envelope and Structural sections. This two-day session will provide a wealth of information condensed into a 5-hour per day format.
Broadcast live online on Saturday, October 13 and Sunday, October 14 at 9:00 a.m. (PT).

Registration is now open for the 2018 edition of POP // CAN // CRIT: The Business of Architecture in Canada. This year’s event will take place in Vancouver, BC on Friday, October 19.

NEW THIS YEAR! POP // CAN // CRIT is excited to announce that PCC2018 will be happening both in-person in Vancouver and as a live-streaming webinar across the country! All attendees will also be eligible to receive continuing education credits through the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada (RAIC), for all sessions attended. Special RAIC member applies for the live event in Vancouver.

The 2018 symposium will bring together architects, academics, and media and business strategy professionals to discuss the business of architecture in Canada. Panel discussions will focus how the art and business of architecture come together, how we communicate architecture, and how business topics are currently being taught or not taught in architecture schools in Canada. The panel will also discuss the growing awareness of the gender gaps that exist in the profession, as well as how and whether architecture firms are succession planning – and what this all means for the future of architecture in Canada. 

The Royal Architectural Institute of Canada is offering project management courses for architects and interns in Toronto, Edmonton, and Vancouver. These courses will provide both project management knowledge in the context of architectural practice as well as prepare participants for the Project Management Institute’s PMP® certification exam.

Due to popular demand, more courses have been added for Toronto!

Next year’s Festival of Architecture will take place in Toronto, October 26-30. The theme will be “The Future of Architecture.” This event will host many continuing education sessions, networking opportunities, and tours. Stay tuned to RAIC communications for more details as they become available.
