Session Summary
In this session, you will find out what mindfulness is, and how it can help you to manage some of the stresses in your life. You will also be introduced to some of the research supporting mindfulness. The instructor will guide you through some short mindfulness practices that you can use in daily life, including guided meditations, an eating meditation, and mindfulness tools to help manage challenging emotions and thoughts.
Presenter Biography
Tom Heah has worked as an Occupational Therapist in the mental health field since 2002, and works in private practice and Vancouver Coastal Health. He has developed and taught mindfulness courses since 2006. Tom is currently on the faculty of the Centre for Mindfulness Studies in Toronto and an advisor at the UCLA Mindful Awareness Research Centre in Los Angeles, where he mentors mindfulness teacher trainees. He is a mentor and was a lecturer at, the Univ. of the Fraser Valley’s Mindfulness Based Teaching and Learning graduate certificate program. He teaches group and individual mindfulness sessions to help improve function, manage anxiety, depression, stress, addictions, chronic pain, and psychosis.
