Our Commitment
The RAIC supports and strengthens architectural practice across Canada. Guided by our Strategic Plan, we work collaboratively with the design and construction community to advance professional excellence. Through practical tools, standards, and shared knowledge, the RAIC equips members with the skills, resources, and connections needed to succeed in a complex and evolving environment.
By providing accessible, evidence-informed practice tools, the RAIC promotes design excellence, strengthens the profession, and contributes to a built environment that serves the public good. Our work reflects our shared values of collaboration, innovation, and lifelong learning.
Areas of Action
As Canada’s national voice for architecture, the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada addresses the issues that shape architectural practice beyond provincial and territorial boundaries. While the regulation of architects occurs at the provincial and territorial level, the most pressing challenges facing the profession including housing affordability, climate change, procurement practices, infrastructure investment, and international recognition are national and global in scope. These issues do not stop at jurisdictional borders. The RAIC exists to respond at that scale, aligning advocacy across provinces and territories so that architects speak with a coordinated, credible, and influential national voice in matters that affect the public interest and the future of the built environment.
Through federal advocacy and international engagement, the RAIC ensures that architects’ expertise informs the policies and decisions that shape how Canadians live, work, and build. We bring architectural perspectives into national conversations on housing, climate programs, and procurement reform, complementing the role of regulators whose mandate is focused on public protection and practice oversight within jurisdictions. Internationally, the RAIC connects Canada’s architectural community through the International Union of Architects and other global networks, positioning Canadian architects as leaders in design excellence, sustainability, and equity. In doing so, the RAIC advances architecture not only as a regulated profession, but as a vital contributor to national policy, global dialogue, and long-term societal well-being.
