Registration is closed for this event
For the month of April, the RAIC is pleased to present a weekly series on the subject of Universal Design.

Good Design is Inclusive Design
Date: April 1, 2020
Presenters: Lorene Casiez and Jesse Klimitz

SESSION:

Over the last 150 years, Canada has taken a continuous and ever-changing journey towards greater inclusivity and equality. Its architecture is no different. Recent changes in municipal, provincial and federal legislation have codified a greater commitment to accessibility within the built environment, while best practices go even further. Integrating accessible design is a key component for creating inclusive environments.

By elevating the human experience through built environments that embody inclusivity, resilience, and connectivity, we can improve the quality of life for all, as well as the value of space for its owners and users.

Join industry experts Lorene Casiez and Jesse Kilmitz of Human Space for a discussion of how architects can create better spaces by incorporating inclusive and accessible design strategies, demonstrated through case studies and examples of best practices.

LEARNING OUTCOMES:
At the completion of this session, the participant/learner will be able to:

  • To explain the relationship between accessibility based legislation that applies to the built environment in Ontario and Canada.
  • To explain the broad range of disabilities and design features to consider.
  • To explain the value associated with inclusive spaces.
  • To analyze how to seamlessly integrate accessible and inclusive design strategies.
